They decided to make it a house show at Matt's apartment. It seemed like a great idea, Matt lives alone in a townhouse, the ideal situation for a house show. The problem? Matt is not the most organized of individuals. So Friday afternoon Nathan, Brady, Cameron, and myself forced a deep clean of Matt's apartment to make it presentable for Saturday night. my friends sara, alicia, and hodges hosted their third pre-turkey day celebration this year and it was the biggest one yet with a turnout of almost 50 people. it was pretty much the best way to have a real thanksgiving meal this year that i could possibly think of.

friday night i went up to topsail and stayed until about noon the next day before i had to drive back to wilmington for two weddings on saturday

one night last week i walked out of my bathroom after brushing my teeth and was about to go get in bed when i noticed a burnt smell. my roommates cook a lot so i figured one of them had just burned something earlier and the smell was still lingering, so i didn't think much of it and got in bed. about 10 minutes later, ashley fervently knocked on my door and came in and asked me if i had lit a candle somewhere and forgotten about it. i told her no and got out of bed to help my roommates track down the source of the smell after learning that neither of them had cooked that night. we trace the smell to the kitchen and finally the dishwasher. when we opened it, steam came pouring out and the smell became overwhelming so we quickly shut it so as not to set off the fire alarm. though i was pretty sure i had seen the source of the problem. we made sure the dishwasher was completely turned off and decided to let everything inside cool until morning. in the morning i was up early for a school visit and opened the dishwasher again and saw that it was just as i had suspected. my nalgene bottle's plastic lid was unscrewed and had fallen below the bottom rack against the heater. however i did not realize the extent of the situation. one of the metal bars at the bottom of the dishwasher had melted through it and then the lid melted back around on the other side causing it to be like a bead completely sealed around the bar. i had to snap two melted pieces apart and bend it back in order to get it off.

there was a pretty impressive flash flood during which i was stuck in a clubhouse on campus for 4 hours. this picture was taken after it had stopped raining and the water was starting to go down (you can see the car behind him with the water almost up to its hood)

i went to the beach a few times

came back to charlotte again. played some disc golf with kathy, patrick, caleb, zeke, and nathan.

nathan and i celebrated our 6 months anniversary (we have since also had our 7th)

every monday night during the summer all the IV goers/IV alumni that are left in Wilmington get together for dinner. due to being really busy with school i'd only gone to one of them before last night. The idea was that we would go to a different person's place every week but really we've just been flip flopping back and forth between 2 different apartments. so it was decided that last night we'd go to the seahawk village (where i am living next year) clubhouse/pool and grill out. it was a good call.

semi formal was way back on may 1st but better late than never. the theme was 'dance of the decades' so you could dress up from any decade of your choosing. only about half of the people ended up dressing up but it was fun none the less.

1. i went to my friends' choir concert last weekend from the choir class that 4 of them are in:

nathan has this friend from church/school named peter who asks nathan to lead worship with him at various events from time to time. so when peter asked nathan to help him lead worship at an event in mount olive, nathan said sure. that is how i found myself at a tent revival in the middle of a cow pasture both friday and saturday. yeah.

matt really got into the spirit of the rediculousness that is oozeball and wore cut off shorts and a cut off shirt. later he lost the shirt and just stuck with the cut off shorts

Some New Old Updates

so both of these are things that happened awhile ago but i wanted to wait until i had the videos for them as well in order to post them.

cameron storey went out of town one weekend in february and had asked kristy to pick her up from the airport sunday evening. well we decided to make it a group trip and had an entire welcome home party waiting for her right outside her gate complete with balloons and signs. for a weekend trip.

that sign says "authorized personel only" and this is me sticking it to the man

this is where the ILM staff has decided to keep the objects they confiscate from suitcases. in a glass case in the lobby. so basically, should an psycho decide to go on a tyraid through the airport, all he would need to do would be to throw something through the glass and he would be armed with a variety of weapons. good thinking ILM, good thinking.

Movie Maker

that is a program i have become well versed in this week. i had 2 video projects due in 2 seperate classes within the span of 4 days and i just thought you might like to see them!

this one was for my EDN 303 class (the title of the class is "technology in the classroom"). the assignment was to make a 30-60 second video that supplemented the lesson you have chosen to present via powerpoint. i chose first grade math, how to measure volume. the majority of the lesson talked about measuring volume by way of gallons, quarts, pints, cups, and ounces. this video supplemented that by showing another way to measure volume:

Rock Band

This is an account of the wierdest 24 hour period of my life.
So there is this video game called Rock Band that a lot of people that I know are really good at. If you know what Guitar Hero is, its very similar to that, only this version includes not only guitar but bass, drums, and singing. Well my friend Scott heard about a Rock Band tournament in Goldsboro, near his hometown. Well Scott is amazing at bass and he has a friend who is really good at guitar, our friend Nathan Snell is amazing at drums, and Nathan Storey is awesome at singing. (Yes there are 2 Nathans in this story. Let me help you out by saying if I am referring to Nathan Snell, I will use his full name. If I'm referring to Nathan Storey, I'll just say Nathan. Got it?) So anyway, they entered the tournament which was held at a video game conference and the girls decided to go as well to be their cheering section. So all of us caravaned up to Scott's house Friday night, spent the night, and then went to the competition the next day.

jan 21- my birthday

i went over to my friend rachel's house one night for a movie night and cameron covers my eyes to shield me from something inappropriate (i realize this isn't really an exciting update consiedering things like this happen all the time, i just think this picture is funny)

my shoulder blade kind of popped out of my back, this has yet to be resolved (you can't really see how far out it is in this picture)

carmen and eddie came up for my birthday. this is us at the homecoming game that was also that weekend. yes they are both wearing teal

my friend peyton was on homecoming court and was escorted by my friend felts, she got second runner up!

ok now the good part, my birthday party:

so last year kristy(another one of the birthday girls) was in this huge dance competition and the way they select the participants is by area of campus, so there are people from all the different housing locations on campus. well her and one other guy were the only ones that came for her building and kristy beat out that guy for the spot. he showed up at our party and started break dancing... i guess to prove something. anyway him and kristy ended up having a dance battle and everyone still liked her more so he went home. yes all of that really happened

Hurricane Hanna

the path of hanna. i live right where that black line crosses over onto the US. classes were cancelled friday and a voluntary evacutation was issued because she was only category 1. however if she were to pick up any more strength then a mandatory evacutation would have been issued and then it would be a pain to get out of town, so i decided to go ahead and leave and decided to go to tina's in raleigh for a night and then to chapel hill for the rest of the weekend

i forgot to bring duffel bags to school this year so this was my packing situation. i know it looks like a lot but its really not. the dark blue bag is clothes for the weekend. the red plaid is my bookbag to do homework. the floral one is all other overnight stuff other than clothes, plus some food just in case. and then its just my purse, a blanket and of course my laundry to do at my sister's house. they told us to bring anything with us that we'd be devistated if we lost and my teddy bear was the only thing i could think of.

my hurricane proofed room. you have to prepare for worst case scenario and since i'm on second floor that would just be if my window broke and water came in. so thats all my electronics on my desk with the shower curtain over it. our dressers are fairly water proof if the drawers are closed so it was duct taped shut

it was beautiful and sunny when i left.

One Tree Hill charity basketball game

this morning was the One Tree Hill charity basketball game at Cape Fear and somehow, even though they sold out in less than 10 minutes, my friend Sarah and i both managed to get tickets. will call opened at 8 am so we thought we were being smart by leaving at 7:15. when we got there we heard that some people had been there since 3am. we met one girl who had driven down 12 hours from ohio WITHOUT a ticket, in hopes of scalping one. luckily she got one, but she was one of few. people were offering 100$ or more for 25$ tickets. when we got there at about 7:45 the line was already streatched around the front sidewalk and around the back of the building and there was a mob at the door waiting to get in when the doors opened at 10.

Part 1: Dub Stud

my friend Felts compted in the Dub Stud competition which is basically a male beauty pagent. each contestent represents a different organization on campus and he represented intervarsity.

Part 2: elevator music

there is no music in the elevator in belk, so we provide our own sometimes. that means sitting on the elevator with sarah and her ukelele and waiting for people to get on and then sara sings a made up song for them on the spot and we watch.

the azalea festival is kind of a big deal in wilmington, me and my friends went twice this weekend. it was basically a bunch of vendors and some games and live music and a lot of food set up in the streets downtown. i got funnel cake because places like this is really the only place to get it.

Hawk it Out

our friend Kristy was in Hawk it Out which is this huge dance competition on campus. so we made tshirts that spelled out her name as well as signs and then went to support her.

the back of our shirts all had her signature dances on them. they're hard to read but they say: do the funky chicken, do the blender, do the q-tip, do the shopping cart, do the sprinkler, and sponsored by dr. pepper.

ok so this is my favorite show:

so this is how my evening went down. around 6:45 my friend sarah who is also obsessed with one tree hill comes running into my room screaming that james lafferty who plays nathan on the show is in the rec center on campus. (as you might know, one tree hill is filmed in wilmington, which is also the town i currently live in) her friend who works there had called her to say he had just checked in. we arrived at the gym at about 6:48. we don't see him anywhere. we figured he was probably in the locker room or something so we decide to go upstairs to walk the track because it circles the gym and you can see the whole gym from it. so we climb the stairs, i'm leading the way and nearly bump into someone stretching at the top of the stairs. the guy turns to look at us and i'm face to face with james lafferty. we didn't want to bother him though because he was about to play basketball so we just pass him like nothings up and he goes back down to the court to play. this is the point that i realize that i'm standing in the gym in jeans and vans and its quite obvious why i'm there. then i realized that i didn't care. so we went back downstairs and watched the basketball game until he was done and on the way out....

we asked for a picture. the three girls you see in this picture will conveniently be sharing an apartment next year. if you visit us, expect to see this picture poster sized in a prominant location.

this one is just cropped differntly but you can see that i'm wearing jeans in the gym so i thought i'd add it hahaha.

MLK weekend

we had monday of school so some friends and i decided to go to the MLK parade downtown. so i got up monday morning at about 10 and checked the weather and on my computer and it said: currently 30 degrees, feels like 22.

awesome.
so i put on leggings, tall socks, warm fuzzy socks, jeans, boots, a tank top, a sweater, a coat, a scarf, and mittens. and i was still pretty cold. but it was still really fun

i bought 2 fish when i got back to wilmington they look pretty much the same except for 2 minor differences. also, only one of them has been named thus far.

this is beaker. he is smaller than the other fish, difference #1.

i named him beaker because is face reminds me of beaker from the muppets (i know you can't see his face in this picture but trust me, he does)

this is the fish with no name which brings us to difference #2. this fish only has one eye.
